The composer opens up about the creative challenges of Actor Aegan’s romantic entertainer, as his songs and background score earn appreciation ahead of the film’s worldwide theatrical release tomorrow.
Music director Siddhu Kumar has steadily built a reputation for crafting melodies that stay with listeners, with songs such as ‘Usure’, ‘Mayilaanjiye’ and ‘Idhu Dhaan’ from Sivappu Manjal Pachai, ‘Urugi Urugi’ from Joe & Eppadi Vandhaayo from Aaoramaley, becoming notable entries in his musical journey. His work on romantic dramas such as Theera Kaadhal has also highlighted his ability to explore the emotional nuances of relationships through music. Now, the composer turns his attention to Haiku, a feel-good romantic comedy written and directed by Yuvaraj Chinnasamy. With the film set for a worldwide theatrical release tomorrow, October 23, and songs already topping the charts, Siddhu Kumar is delighted by the encouraging response to its songs and background score from critics and audiences who have watched the film in early preview screenings.
Speaking about the musical journey of Haiku, Siddhu Kumar says, “When Yuvaraj Chinnasamy narrated the script of Haiku, I could immediately see that it offered tremendous scope for music, but it also came with its own challenges. Love stories are always a boon for music directors because they offer so many opportunities to create memorable melodies. At the same time, they demand a great deal of sensitivity, as the music has to complement the emotions without overpowering them. For Haiku, I went through several options and variations because we wanted the music to become an integral part of the screenplay, almost like a silent character in the film. Every song and every musical passage had to serve the emotions and the story. I am grateful to my director and producers for giving me the creative freedom to explore different possibilities and arrive at what worked best for the film. It was such a boon to get an opportunity to record the BGM at the world renowned Budapest, where the Iconic Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, Isaipuyal AR Rahman sir and many others had orchestrated masterpieces there. The encouraging response to the songs and background score from the early previews has been truly overwhelming. We have crafted the music with a great deal of care, and I believe Haiku will offer audiences a beautiful musical experience when they watch it in theatres.”
Written and directed by Yuvaraj Chinnasamy, Haiku stars Aegan, Sridevi and Femina George in the lead roles, alongside Adirchi Arun, Subramaniya Sethu, Adhiyaman, Mime Gopi and Indhumathi Manigandan, among others. Produced by Dr. D. Arulanandhu and Mathewo Arulanandhu under the Vision Cinema House banner, the film features cinematography by Priyesh Gurusamy, editing by Sakthi Praneesh P and additional screenplay by Hariharan Ram. B. Sakthivelan of Sakthi Film Factory is releasing the film in Tamil Nadu.
With romance, humour and heartfelt emotions at its core, Haiku is poised to bring audiences a story in which music plays a vital role in shaping the emotional experience. Following the encouraging early response to its songs and score, the film is all set to meet audiences worldwide in theatres tomorrow, October 23, 2026.
