Paterson Cancer Center Celebrates Rose Day 2026 with Cancer Awareness and Patient Support
Chennai, September 22, 2026: The 22nd of September is celebrated every year as Rose Day, a special occasion dedicated to bringing cheer, happiness and smiles to cancer patients across the country. On this day, patients are greeted with roses, gifts and personalised messages as a gesture of care, support and solidarity. Paterson Cancer Center (PCC), a comprehensive cancer care centre inaugurated by former President of India, His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on June 19, 2003, celebrated Rose Day on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The programme was organised under the auspices of the Cancer Alleviation Foundation (CALF), a charitable trust working towards creating a cancer-free society and supporting cancer patients.
The centre functions on the principle of “By the patients, of the patients and for the patients,” with a focus on comprehensive cancer care and patient support.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Kannusamy, Strategic Advisor – Insurance and Healthcare Leadership, who emphasised the importance of creating greater awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and available treatment modalities. He stressed that cancer-related awareness and preventive healthcare knowledge should be imparted from the high-school level and also disseminated through magazines and other communication platforms. He also assured his support in taking forward such awareness initiatives.
Shri M.S. Moorthy, M/s. Moorthy Associates and Secretary of Mithra Charitable Trust, extended his guidance and support towards providing treatment assistance to underprivileged cancer patients through his charitable trust.
Cine actor and social activist Shri Aari Arujunan felicitated the gathering and spoke about the importance of maintaining physical fitness and living in harmony with nature. As a social activist, he expressed his willingness to participate in cancer awareness camps conducted by Paterson Cancer Center.
Shri Elred Kumar Santhanam, Guest of Honour, and a well-known producer, director and screenplay writer, spoke about his experience at the centre and expressed his conviction that cancer can be treated successfully when detected and managed appropriately. He also expressed his intention to communicate this positive message through his upcoming films.
Dr. B. Kumaravel, Managing Director, Vijay’s Nursing Home, highlighted the importance of early detection of cancer, particularly among women, and stressed the need for regular annual medical check-ups.
Shri Aadhavan, mimicry artist, singer and actor, spoke about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, staying connected with the natural environment, following healthy dietary practices and avoiding junk food and substance use.
Dr. S. Vijayaraghavan, Managing Director, Paterson Cancer Center, interacted with the patients and emphasised the importance of having complete faith in their treating doctors and following medical advice carefully throughout the course of treatment.
Dr. Usha Vijayaraghavan, Director, Paterson Cancer Center, welcomed the gathering, while Shri P.T. Govindarajan, Trustee, Cancer Alleviation Foundation, proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was held at the premises of Paterson Cancer Center. As part of the celebration, patients were greeted by “Cancer Ambassadors” – cancer survivors who have successfully completed their treatment and are currently free of the disease. They interacted with the patients, shared words of encouragement and instilled confidence and hope. As a gesture of care and support, roses, gifts and support kits were distributed to all the patients. The celebration reinforced the importance of emotional support, awareness, early detection and timely treatment in the fight against cancer.
