
Varshini: From Physics to Performance
Varshini karmegham who plays Ramya in Motha Raathiri, comes to cinema with a rather unconventional background. A Physics student from psgr krishnanmmal college, Coimbatore. Varshini discovered her passion for performance through short films and stage experiences.
Her artistic journey has also been shaped by Bharatanatyam, which gave her a strong foundation in expression, discipline and body language. She has been part of short films,gradually building her confidence in front of the camera.
Varshini has a particular admiration for Hindi cinema and draws inspiration from performers such as Tabu, Rekha, Aishwarya Rai and Shobana . She is fascinated by actors who can bring depth and individuality to their characters rather than merely performing for the camera.
She also considers her command of Hindi an important advantage. Varshini can both read and pronounce Hindi well, and believes this could give her access to a much wider range of opportunities as an artist.
“Knowing Hindi gives an artiste the ability to explore multiple options, especially with the growing reach of OTT platforms. It allows us to look beyond one language and discover more interesting characters and opportunities,” she says.
Among contemporary actors, Sai Pallavi is someone she greatly admires for her natural performances and ability to remain authentic on screen. She also looks up to Dhanush sir, particularly for his versatility and his ability to completely transform himself for a character.
Music is another important influence in her creative world. She is a fan of both Yuvan Shankar Raja and Ilaiyaraaja, appreciating the distinctive emotional worlds created by their music.
